Quemerford PongGreetings. First post!
Just moved to Calne (more or less opposite Trinity school) and on the way through Quemerford this morning I was greeted with a terrible stink starting around The Talbot pub. It's a real nausea inducing smell - reminds me of an oil refinery - and I just wondered if it's normal... could it be coming from the rubbish tip or are there any industrial units in that area? I don't recall any mention on the environmental survey we had done a few months ago.

There used to be a pig farm round there .i am not sure if there still is .
That is what the smell is though.

that pig farm smell is awful, although I haven't noticed it for a while, as I think the farm's closed down.
you can see it here on google maps
it's pretty much due south of Trinity/Tyning Park, at the end of the The Rise.
Otherwise it's probably something a farmer's put on a field. There's a recycling tip in Compton Basset but it generally doesn't small that bad.

I wonder if this is related, because that smell is still in the air over here near Trinity school...

Yes, it's the tip. Look at a google map and you will see the extent of it - from Oxford Road across to Quemerford. Also go up to the recycling place at Compton Bassett and have a look at the Red Lake - pure poison!

Ps Animal carcasses were also dumped there during the foot and mouth crisis several years ago.
