pondhow do i keep the water more clear in my pond? it seems to go green so quickly?

Hello,
If you dont allready have one first step is to install a pump and if you can an external filter. This is a fairly cheap way of keeping your water clear as it will filter out the floating particals in the water and oxygenate the water by getting it moving and slashing.
If you dont want pumps / electricity choose the right balance of planting and this will really help to keep the water clear.

we have pumps and stuff but they dont seem to work, but they are quite old I might buy some new ones and see how it goes :)

the algea is due to the hot weather all ponds will get it in summer time.pumpps are the best way though.

Dont put tap water in its full of nutrients.
Plenty of plants will use up the nutrients.
A small sheaf of barley straw in the water helps.
Pumps etc are expensive a dont work very well.

As long as your pump actually pumps the water thats all you need. It doesnt need to throw the water miles in the air (unless your aiming for that footballers wives look  ).
I have a small external filter on my pond, it looks like a small water tank, which has layers of different grades of foam and a load of ribbed plastic pipe in the bottom. The idea is the foam filter out the particals in the water and good bacteria form in the ribbed plastic pipes which remove algae etc. I think my filter cost about £20.
My pond is about 3 foot deep and is crystal clear. Dont put any addatives in the water, these might temporarily clear the water but it wont last.
Take note of martins advice, dont put tap water in as it will just go green.
Out of interest how old is your pond / the water in it?
