I never had any pocket money. Any money that I was given had to be earned.

Not quit sure what you want to debate about this, I got some when I was young and also worked a weekend paper round for what it's worth (and the amount I was given was less than I earned).

I can remember doing a paper round at Tich's shop in William street (remember them?) for the princely sum of £1.50. The round which was over quite an area lasted for three to four hours depending on whether it was raining or not. I handed in my notice after a month because getting up at 6am on a Sunday morning was not worth the bother for £1.50! And that was only back in 1985!

I was totally spoilt, i used to get £5 a week( it was meant to be £4 but my dad never had change!) but if the fair came into town i used to spend it all in one night so it ended up i was having £5 a night. But as a result im rubbish with money, so my kids only get money they work for.

I never got any pocket money and to be honest I think I did better from that deal than my peers who were given some because I could ask for things and get them whereas they had to pay for it themselves. I did earn 12s 6d from a paperround with Westons in Church Street and that was for a whole week of getting up at 6am

I never had it ...... if i wanted money i had to earn it.
Hence it made me realise the importance of finances, savings etc.

if i wanted money when i was younger i had to earn it.
i can remember wanting a fiver for a skate bored and for that i had to pick up all the fallen apples and leaves in the garden.
hell of a lot of work just for a fiver but i did it.
if my son wants something he also has to earn it.he will claen the house, help with the garden .on the whole he is good at helping out.
its important to teach children responabillity with money and stuff .
the cats we have we have two .one recently went to the vets .the cat belongs to my son as a responsible cat owner he is working off half of the vets bill.he has no problem with this and it teaches him that animals cost money.
ha is also the one who feeds his animals and cleans them out.
i am there to help him if needs be.
but he has to learn all aspects of keeping pets not just the fun part.
