I have also recently re-discovered photography. Used to be heavily into it about 6 years ago, till my ex wife sold my lovely eos 30 to fund her drinking habit. Recently bought a kodak z712 which is good enough for now. My specialty is underground light painting. Like this.

This was painted on a 16 second exposure light painting with a million candle power torch. I also have same view painted with a 3w led light. I shall find it and post it later.
This one was also light painted. Unfortunately, the camera moved during the exposure so it is all a bit blurred.

This next pic was taken with a £30 vivitar camera using a flash gun with a magic eye

This one lit naturally on a 10 second exposure. My cousin on the left does not know what keep still means

After trial and error, I finally managed to get a nice picture from this angle here. approx 1.5 times zoom and a 3 sec exposure. lit naturally.

I had a go doing some close up with the kodak. The lens was 4" away from the keyboard which is the camera's focal limit.

And finally for now, this winch in a slate mine in wales. was light painted from the right with a low power led lamp, and from the left with a high power led lamp. exposure was 16 seconds.

Infact, I am going to a small mine outside corsham on Tuesday night to do some more photography.

I have that same shot Light painted with an led. I will post it in a mo. Having problems logging onto photobucket, so I am gonna give flickr a go.

As Promised.
Light painting with a 1 million candle power halogen torch.

Light painting with a 3 watt led torch.

Apologies for different sizes. top one on photo bucket, bottom one on flickr.
Think i will try imageshack next. lol

Edit. Changed bottom pic for same photo on photobucket.

The diff on lighting is absolutely amazing.......it brings the shot to life without losing any detail.......gobsmacking job Cool

I think the halogen would be good for huge chambers, but that chamber was only 10 foot high and 90 foot long. I think the halogen was either too bright or that I should of reduced exposure to 10 seconds. I will be experimenting with more underground light painting, and remote flashes on tuesday. I will post my results.

I changed that bottom pic on the last but one post. I think I will stay with photobucket for now. All the others seem more awkward to use. (I will start a new topic about this in a moment.)
But here is an example of remote flashing.

You can just see the magic eye sticking out around the side of the robot.

great use of lighting behind and great also how it shows gold on the back and yet white on the floor Cool
Clunk

The gold is the reflection of the light off the bricks.
Have you ever tried light painting?
Or remote flash?
eyestrange

nope the only flash I use is from my ring flash...this is needed to get max DOF for insects.....I must admit I like taking flower shots so would be interested in what you do to get this control on light....I just use the down light from my oven extra fan and would love to get better light.......light is such a major part of photography IMHO....Pat Very Happy

Try this then
Get a subject on black cloth in a dark(end) room. Set exposure to 1 second. Get a torch. Set the countdown timer to 2 seconds. (so there is no shudder when you press the shutter) press shutter relaese and 'paint' the object with the beam from the torch.
Experiment with:
Exposure settings: Increase to lighten image
Coloured light: try one colour from one angle and another from another.

I have done a light paint with an ultra violet torch. Didnt come out well, but a strange result none the less.

When you finally come to the area, I will take you somewhere underground to try large scale lightpainting, if you like?
Clunk

Light painting in ultra violet

It was experimental, so dont expect an interesting subject.

wow sounds like a plan to me....cheers mate Very Happy
