Photography discussionsFirstly, I think this forum should be renamed from 'Scenic photographs' to 'Photography' because there seems to be a lot of animals creeping in now.
Also, I thought I would start this topic to discuss photography issues. For example, does the fstop settings actually do? I have a rough idea, but can somone be more specific, please?

not technical myself but Fstops take in light or reduce light and create diff DOF (depth of field)
eg. at F16 on my macro lens gets the best DOF...which is little enough due to the nature of the lens, MP-E 65mm.
at F2.7 it increases the light but reduces the DOF
The higher the F number, the lower the apperture....hope this helps :?

It does help a bit. I suppose the best thing for me to do is to put my camera on manual settings and take the same pic on different f settings to sort of figure it out.

I remember going to Austria about 18 years ago with my snazzy new camera which had all the different lenses and kit. I decided to use it fully in manual rather than auto and promptly messed up my entire collection of holiday snaps.

Try AV setting...its manual but you have control over F/stops and its easier than full on manual.....do you shoot in Raw ?????? you take fantastic underground shots that rely a great deal on the light and Raw is a great way of bringing this out.........you could set your camera to Raw/JPG....so you have the image in both....then you can play with Raw but still have the JPG to fall back on.....just a thought
