PETER,SOPHY,AND CHUCK

BEST OF LUCK FOR THURDAY.WHO EVER WINS PLEASE BE SURE TO HOLD YOUR PROMISES.
BEEN VERY ENTERTAINING THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS IN THE POLITICAL SECTION AND FEEL THAT WE KNOW A LITTLE BIT MORE OF THE PERSON WHAT ARE UP FOR THE VOTE.

Chuck

Thank you I am sure either one of us will be up to the job.

Perhaps we should make sure this forum is a soundiong block for all our Councillors a sort of online surgery with confidential replies where required using the PM system.

It woudl be quite a good way of keeping in touch.

Just a thought for whoever is elected I enjoyed the banter.

I totally agree Chuck, this forum would work well as surgery for all the councillors elected.

Though a little advertising and marketing of the idea would have to be implemented.

Good luck one and all.
sophy

Thanks to everyone who's participated.

I've enjoyed it too.

Perhaps I'll see you at the count on Friday, Peter and Chuck? It would be nice to shake hands, regardless of the outcome.
Chuck

perhaps a glass of something - my shout also regardless,

Chuck

I too would like to wish the three of you the very best of luck and thank you for your time and effort that you have put into this forum by answering a lot of very diverse questions on policy matters.

If only we could get more Calne (and without) councillors, either elected or candidates, onto here to use this forum as some sort of cyber soap box then I'm sure that the people of Calne will actually know something a bit more about who they are going to vote for.

I have tried since the creation of the Calnetalk forum (nearly 2 years now!) to get more elected representatives onto this forum so that we can voice our questions and hear their views on various matters that affect us in our daily lives. I have e-mailed the three main parties as well as Calne Town council with an invitation to join in on the political debates that are going on but have not had any success, in fact none of the main parties, at local level, even acknowledged my e-mail. I have tried to contact Calne Town Council twice via their official e-mail address but have not even had a reply.

Given this poor response, could I please ask that which ever of the three of you who get elected on Thursday please push a few more of the local councillors onto this forum to enter into some sort of dialogue with their electorate.

Thankyou.

i think chucksidea is a good one and what gtb has said .by you guys who are on here we have learned so much about the person rather than the party which is so important when voting.

i find it dissapointing that they never even replyed to your email thats just shocking

Just don't put it on expenses!!! (JOKE!!!)

All the best for the three of you, I have met Sophy (traveller sites), met Chuck on my doorstep, and feel like I have met Peter.
Chepfer

It's so true,

I actually live in calne south/cherhill ward and feel i know more about the calne north candidates than any of my own .... by a long shot.

This sort of internet debating should be made more prevalent and advertised and i would imagine the the responce would be just fantastic.

Perhaps coucillors could set up sessions for a couple of hours a week and have an open questions and answers from there elective public .... what a great way to be actively involved with there voters in there own homes !.

As a moderator here, i'd actively help in any way i could to set something like this up, as would the others !

Yep!

Are the three of you feeling nervous yet?? Big Grin
Peter Dolman

sorry I not contributed to this topic before now but what with work and canvassing I not had much time. My good wishes to Sophy and Chuck for tomorrow, I shall be at the polling station (North Star Club) from 7am and on and off during the day.

With regard to involvement of councillors on this site I have been promoting it during our campaign meeting and with individual town councillors almost since it started.
I am aware that many of the town councillors and officers of the council (yes I know you do!) are active watchers/guests, some of them may even be contributors but with a alias.
It can be a bit intimidating leaving a comment not knowing who is going to read it and how scathing they may be in reply. I was always prepared to use my real identity and fight my corner on what I believe is right, even before I had decided to stand in this election.

This is another medium to be able to communicate to the wider public to guage reactions to ideas and to formulate new ideas. I am disappointed that there are not more people contributing be they councillors or plebs like myself.

No matter who you are going to vote for no one can say that they did not have the chance to speak to the candidates in Calne North. In addition to leaflets, personal canvassing, shopping in Sainsbury's (& other shops in the town) we have have quite a dialogue on www.calnetalk.com

Alana surely thats worth a piece in the Gazette & Herald after the election?

no matter who you vote for please take the time tomorrow to do so!

That is a very good point. Everything has been out in the open, nobody has been hiding behind an alias and the replies are there to be read for all to see. I think that alone deserves an article in the Gazette & Herald. Come on, Alana what do you reckon?
Peter Dolman

just taking a quick break from the rigours of the hustings, the early indications (at least in Calne North) is that the turnout is going to be low. That does not take into account the number of postal votes
cast. Unless there is a last minute turnout, which I hope there is, the vote will struggle to reach 40% which is very poor considering the importance of this vote.

So if you are reading this please vote, hopefully for me, no matter who you vote for. Don't let someone you don't want to win because of apathy!
GTB

I voted a little earlier in Seend and one of the clerks said it was quite well attended, with just over 200 people voting and still a couple of hours to go. I don't know what, in percentage terms, this equates too but it can't be bad for a village.
Local lass

i had toi vote in the cadet hall and there were about ten people in there at that time.

is the north calne polling station the north star or is it the school\/

North Star. At about 1830-1900 there was a steady stream, we came back from work, had our tea then popped down, and it was quite busy.

The longest list of MEP candidates I've ever seen, about 2 feet long including the Christ party, and the COrnish Liberation Front.

I voted on both accounts.

Good luck, when do you find out?
Local lass

according to the person down the cadet shack the local is being counted tonight.
GTB

I think the results ought to be in shortly. It's like waiting to see who has won the Oscar.
Peter Dolman

sorry to disappoint you but the result for the Unitary council will not be known before tomorrow afternoon. (Friday 5th)
The count starts at 9am with the polling boxes being open and the polling papers reconciled with the record of papers issued. When all the boxes are verified then the process of counting starts.
Its estimated that Calne North could be announced at approx 1:30 to 2:30.
I will give the result on Calnetalk.com as soon as possible.

Thank you to anyone who voted for me.
Local lass

goodluck peter ,chuck and sopfy
