I think one of the biggest has to be The Harris family, you can travel all over the country and say i'm from Calne and people still say isn't that where Harris's are !

for the life of me i can not remember his name .he used to deliver the free news paper.
i know his wife last time i spoke to her he was quite ill .
so what are you suggesting mr shaw a section on the people who make calne what it is/the people of calne what every one knows?

 Hey thats Calnes road runner does alot of work for charity if iam not mistaken ?

Ken Shaw, what a bloke! Ran over 100 marathons and some of them were super marathons of something like 100 miles, or something like that.
He aint the only fabulous runner from Calne ... Walter Goodall George was the world's greatest ever runner. Holding the mile record for 29 years was an achievement in itself but he also held something like 13 running records at one time! The guy was born in Calne and has two plaques so far. I think Ken Shaw should also have one perhaps.

Hehehe. Yep our dad has done loads for charity in Calne. Now the sad news for those of you who dont know. Dad has been in a home for the last 18 months with Dementia and is getting worse. Gutted it hurts like hell. They may be holding a walk in Calne next year in dads name. That would be nice.
The boys from county hell halped with the Calne name....

Your dad is an inpiration to us all and what you say is truely saddening.
I used to have dealings with him, as he used to deliver flyers for us ..... Such a nice guy.
If you do decide to do a charity walk or run in his name, then you'd have my backing and probably most of Calnes !!!!!
If you need any help ..... just ask !

Yeah when people ask you where ur from you say....Calne and they say oh? Most of the time they say that poo hole on the A4.

Mr Shaw sad to hear about your dad he is a very nice man and I hope he is as comfortable and happy as he can be in the circumstances.
