I once used the phrase 'latch key kid' and was looked at with blank faces.
Is it a calne only expression?

I dont think so, but i think it depends on the age of the people you are talking to

There does need to be a cut down on benifits and those who have kids and stay on benifits .the problem is how many jobs will let you have a 915-300 job mon to fri with 6 weeks off in the summer and not forgetting all the half terms.
to place a child in child care it would cost you forty quid a day.and not all people have parents to help them out.

As a lone, unworking parent, I have to go to the jobcentre every 6 months. Every time I go, they do an assesment to see how much better* off I would be working.
Every time, they have worked out I would need a wage of £670 per week before I am better off. This would have to be for a 9 to 5 job as well.
*They say better off. They really did not think anyone would be worse off by working.

It should be made "beneficial" for single parents to go back to work - I know a few who would like to work but cannot because they could not earn enough to cover the bills on part-time wage.
As soon as you start working, you lose all benefits - inc reduced or paid rent. They then top up your wages with the difference between your wage and the money you would have got on benefits. But now you have a full rent to pay and that is not taken into consideration.
All child care costs should be free for working single parents and rent should be subsidised depending on their income.
If they can continue to give benefits to the scroungers who can't be bothered and don't have children then they should help those with children who do want to go back to work.

:? i think if your a single parent then you are probebly better off on benifits ,but as this woman on gmtv said this morning what message does this give out to the kids ,you can stay at home and get money ,working isnt only about bringing a wage home its also a social life being with differant people ,a purpose in life and builds your confidance and self esteem .
when its a two parent family and there two bone lazy to work then i think there benifits should be stopped .
i see a couple around chippenham with a toddler in a buggy they always have a fag on ,i heard them moaning about there council flat being to small for them ,i felt like saying bloody get a job then .The bloke is so fat he probebly claims for that.
