The impact of modern technology in the home.Twenty years ago there was very few computers and no mobile phones.
Has modern technology destryed family life or has it enhanced it.?

I find this question a bit stupid and irrelevant. It is a kin to saying '100 years ago, we did not have cars', or '200 years ago we did not have plumbing' Modern technology is evolution. 'A million years ago, we were all very hairy and lived in caves. Do you think that houses and shaving has destroyed family life?'

I have to say I find your response slightly rude Clunk. The question raises a fair point and should be consider in the manner in which it was put and not dismissed out of hand.

Have to agree Bear
Lets put it down to getting out of bed the wrong side?
Back to the question, the internet has enhanced my life, however I am living in a very remote area with two young children
I use forums and websites for information and conversation, mostly in my own fields of interest and I research oline for various on going projects.
Properly used the advances in technology are liberating.
However I would not allow my daughters to spend as much time online as I do!

In quite a few aspects modern technology has destroyed family life.
where as in the olden days people used to sit down together as a family during meal time most people now sit infrount of the tv and eat.
insted of being outside and playing in the fresh air kids these days would sooner play on the games console or or talk to there friends vis the web.
The web its self is a excelent learning center but it will over take books
i think we rely to much on the computer .
we survived long before mobile phones .

I have just re-read this and find it interesting that someone who is so precise in spelling out how to improve quoting etc should have got their facts so wrong.
1. We did have cars 100 years ago, admittedly not as many as we have now but we did have them.
2. Plumbing was either invented by the Romans or the Chinese depending on which historian you agree with therefore the human race has had plumbing for approx. 2000 years and not two hundred
3. Man did not exist on this planet a million years ago and therefore was not living in caves or growing beards.
Just thought I would put you right on that one.

From the looks of things other members do not seem to have a problem with the question posed.

Thanks to the internet, I speak to family members every day which I would not normally see for months. I can arrange trips to see friends at the last minute. I can Watch any film I like within minutes of deciding I want to. My ex wife can see her kids whenever she wants due to me having a webcam. Everyone know how to get hold of me, and knows that they can get hold of me in seconds. Either by e-mail, text or phone. Of course modern technology has enhanced family life. It brings everyone closer. Although, A useless fact for you. The internet would of failed if it was not for the porn industry. Even today, 80% of web traffic is porn. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Just to say, you can still rent a DVD in the unwins or whatever its called now a days
And as for modern technology, yes we have come along way mobile phones, microwaves, computers, even a man on the moon. But at what cost.... how many kids of today have a proper cooked meal each day, no i dont mean the ones you put in the microwave, or cant spell other than text style, and are too busy talking to their friends on the net to want to spend time with their family. Just a few thoughts on modern tech.

I talk to my family on the net.
And I really hate that bloody text speak. One of my younger friends through my underground group is always using it to post on a forum. I edit it after to correct it all.

would you rather have modern central heating or an open coal/wood fire that has to be cleaned out each day??

oal fire is nicer, but central heating is more convenient.

We have a wood burner which is extremely cheap to run seeing as I get the wood for nothing! We have a little kettle on it as well so we always have some hot water for a cup of tea rather than putting the electric kettle on.

I was seeing this woman for 3 years who lived in the sticks of wales. Her central heating was coal fired. Which side of the ch/coal fire fence does this go?
|

i would like to get a wood burner for my dinning room, the heat you get from either one is much better for you as its not a dry heat, if you know what i mean

 um :? well at a guess id say coal fire cause its not run just by electric, gas or oil.
