N.H.S

Here's a small task for the fine members of Calnetalk to undertake. What steps would you create to save the N.H.S money so that it could provide an even better service. Would you make cutbacks on operations such as tattoo removal or breast enlargements? Would you cut wages of the top consultants and give the difference to the lowly nurses?

The only rule of the game is that you cannot add extra money into the N.H.S, you have to use the existing budget and re-organise its setup.

Lets hear your thought then?

In no particular order

1.Stop all non medical procedures such as cosmetic surgery

2.Refuse medical treatment to ant non British nationals without full payment

3 Reduce administration costs by removing a layer of non medical middle management

4 Increase pay with the savings to all medical front line staff

5 Ban cigarettes completely

I don't always agree with you, but I think you have it spot on there.

What about some medical proceedures? Why not scrap all non-essential operations (unless they are willing to pay for them themselves) like breast enlargement, sex change operations, tattoo removal, cosmetic surgery (for vanity reasons only and would not apply to reconstructive repairs). If you really wanted to push the boat out with non-essential operations would you curb the use of I.V.F treatment?

Long list there GTB. Ok one at a time firstly how would you class a non-essential operation, take varicose vein removal, not essential but desirable. How would you class that one. Breast enlargement should be paid for and not on the NHS, sex change operations ditto, tattoo removal tough you paid to put them on so you can pay to take them off, cosmetic surgery for vanity reasons should be paid for and IVF treatment whilst I have every sympathy with those who are unable to have children why should we pay to increase an ever increasing population

I suppose vasectomies could be listed as a non-vital/neccesary operation that the NHS shouldn't have to carry out.

I would like to see a financial penalty imposed on people who frequently miss hospital/doctor appointments and waste valuable time - which as you will know is money.

A&E departments are used as a general practioners drop in centre in a lot of cases - people going to accident and emergency because of a cold or sore throat when a trip to the chemists would suffice.

Like Bear, I would also like to see the stopping of any non-essential treatment on non-british people. Why should I pay into a health scheme such as the NHS just for foreigners to take advantage of it? The British tax payers are looking like mugs when we have freeloaders leaching of not only our benifts system but our health service as well. It's got to stop! Twisted Evil

vasectomies would save the NHs in the long run ,through un wanted pregnancys ,difficult labours ,c sections etc .

Probably enhancing local doctor's surgeries would make a big difference too: being able to call a local doctor for house visits / out-of-hours rather than having to make a trip to a hospital, for example.
