June 4th 2009 elections to the new Unitary Authority

The 4 district councils cease to exsist on the 31st March as does the Wilts County Council.

An interim council will take care of the day to day operations untill the 4th June when elections will be held to elect the councillors for the new Authority
There will be 5 wards in Calne
Calne North
Calne Central
Abberd/Priestly
Calne South & Cherhill
Calne Without

I will post details of the candidates for all the wards as soon as they are known.

Elections to the European Parliament will also take place on the same day.

The Unitary elections are likely to see some in fighting amongst the Conservatives with 2 experienced campaigners, Nancy Bryant and Shauna Bodman, rumored to be standing as Independants after failing to get seats for their party in the June 4th elections.

Nancy Bryant has been overlooked in favour of Christine Crisp. Christine Crisp is also a long serving district and county councillor. This is expected to be a tough battle between the two and may let in a third party for an unexpected win. Good chance to bet on an outsider!

Shauna Bodman lost out to Alan Hill an inexperienced politician having only been elected at town and district in 2007.  Mr Hill stood twice in town elections before being successfull, once as an Independant and once as a Lib Dem.
They will be contesting the Calne South (Quemerford) and Cherhill ward on June 4th
Despite having the Conservative parties organisation behind him the smart money is on Shauna if she decides to stand.
