Is this right ?!

I think i am right in saying that of the 5 councillors elected, only one actually lives in there own ward (Alan Hill)

Christene Crisp lives in Christain Malford (Calne rural)

Chuck lives in Chelworth (Cricklade) (Calne North)

Tony Trotman lives in South Calne (Abberd)

Marshall lives in Quemerford (Calne central)

And Alan Hill actullty lives in his own ward !

If your not living in your own elected area, can you really get a feel for what does or does not need doing.

For instance .. i work in Chippenham but i could never represent an area of chippenham. I hust dont have the knowledge, understanding and feel of the place.

What do you think ??

How would you feel about being an elective in say swindon ? .. We all go there lots, every day in some cases ..... but could you run it ?!

It seems the electorate didn't see it as a problem - everyone's address is given on the ballot form as I recall.
Chuck

I understand the issue I guess now job done you'll have to dsee if its and issue don't think it will be in my case. Hope tosee all of you at the first Area Board - when I find out when and where it is I'll post. We hope to have specific burning issues to discuss with varous relevant bodies who will be invited to attend.

Any thoughts?

What is an area board and what do you mean by you'll find out where and when you'll serve ?
Chuck

Area Board are the new(ish) vehicle through which certain elements of local service are defined. Losely speaking it means that money is dished out based on local grant applications etc... but also certain service partners are invited to discuss with those who receive the service.

For example Persimmon might be invited to discuss estate issues with the residents - that sort of thing.

Not sure where it will be help proabaly Calne Town Hall.

the area boards are to be established more or less on the former district council area committees. Calne used to be area no 5 in the north wilts council set up.
Area 5 had a small budget and was able to grant revenue and capital funding projects. I am lead to believe the new area boards will have a budget of approx £1,000,000 to spend in their areas.
The boards will consist of the 5 elected unitary councillors and some community groups like CCAP (a wholly unelected body), schools town councillors etc etc, although the exact make up has yet to be determined.
Only the elected unitary councillors have a vote, everyone else is purely advisorary.
Any member of the public can attend these meetings and I hope have a chance to speak, not sure what the "rules" on speaking are. I would like to thing we would get more members of the public at the area board meetings than attends town council meetings. This new councillors have to be kept on their toes and fighting for the town in all matters!

The hope is that the area boards will be closer to grass roots and will reflect the "will of the people" whatever that means.
My concern now is that because our area board will be dominated by 1 political party decisions will be make on party lines rather than what is best for the town. I may be wrong as I often am and I hope I am in this case.

Chepfer you are almost correct.
Christine Crisp is or has moved to Malmsbury, although she was a long term resident of Foxham which is in her ward.

Chuck Berry lives in Chelworth although he tells me has worked in Calne for many years.
The rest is correct.

One of my principles in standing for election is that I will only represent the ward I live in but thats a personal matter.

In relation to the recent election the criteria is that you must live in Wiltshire!

I was asked to stand in a different ward in the town but refused, this did cause some minor problems.
The same happened in the conservative party which resulted in a Calne town councillor standing for a ward in Chippenham as the most odd example.
That is why you have people in different wards to the one they live in, but at least they live in the town.
