The problem is not Calne. So please dont put Calne down. The problem is the person or people that you refer to.

do you not have a positive thing to say about the town and the people who live here?

i would suggest peter that you look through my posts and you woill indeed see that i have said plenty of things what i have found positive about calne.
do pray tell peter what you find postitive in the fact, in my area there has been about 6 drugs raids, the dog s*** bit has been kicked off more times than i can remember, people shouting, dogs constanly barking,a peodifile living across the road, peoples windows getting smashed, kids what run amock and seems every word what comes out there mouths is f uck or c unt.people openly dealing drugs on the street, lso tell me whats positive about that then peter?

Thank you biggles.I think peter you need to get those rose tinted glasses off and see the bigger picture.

Thanks LL
Well its true you can see both sides thats theres good and bad
Some people on here just launch personal attacks on others if their views dont match their own
hes from Malmesbury hes bad, or hes a Tory or Labour hes bad, seems its your turn now LL

There are indeed good and bad things about our town. But the points you make are not faults of Calne, they are actions of a small number of people.
Move away from calne, but everywhere you go has the same issues, most much worse than our town.
Good luck with the relocation.

I spent the evening in Calne last night. First off was the Spice of Bengal (see food section) and then the Kings Head, which was, erm.....ok.
Because I no longer live in Calne (havn't done since 1986) it is only the odd occasion that I spend any social time there. I was quite impressed with what they are doing down in the precinct and the alterations of the old Kwik Save place. The area between the bottom of the precinct and Oxford road has vastly improved over the last few years.

Maybe its not Calnes fault......but where do these yobs live????
Um guess that will be CALNE !!
If your looking for blame, try the parents.
yes every town has its problems some worse than calne but when you live in a troubled area its not funny. lets face it, if you needed to call the police it would take them 10 minutes to get from chippenham!!!

Calne isn't actually as bad as other local towns around here .....
Chippenham has far more violent muggings, burgularies and general problems ..... it seems every week someone has been mugged and been kicked in in Monkton park ..... and lets not even go as far as trowbridge, swindon or Bristol.
Perhaps a change of area would be a good thing for you .........

the towns you mentioned chefper are a lot bigger than what calne is.a change of area chepfer will do me dam good as you well know.

People here moan about Calne but everyone I've had visit the area says how nice it is and how much they prefer it to where they live, without exception.
True, they don't see it on Friday and Saturday nights, but every town has its share of 'weekend culture' issues in the UK, many (most) much worse than Calne's.

it the old syndrome of "is the glass half empty or half full"
I would always where possible look for the positive rather than the negative.

I think Chippenham is becoming far worse than Calne ever has been.
As was said, it is a few who ruin it for the rest.
Many parts of Calne are very nice.

From a previous thread Local Lass we live pretty close to eachother. I know what you mean. I've been threatened by kids round here loads of times, there seems to be a drug raid every other day and the noise at weekends from the local retard populace is highly irritating.
It's really not as bad as a lot of places though. I used to live in London and on many occasions we had yobs from Millwall Football Club throwing fireworks, bricks, metal tools, bottles and glasses at police and smashing windows of both houses and vehicles, we had a 15-year-old shot three times in the head by a gang two streets away, it wasn't safe to walk down the street at night because of the scum who would mug you for drug money, and the noise of the prostitutes and local gangs was hell. Calne really doesn't seem so bad

Ok so calne isnt as bad as london .but why should we accept it?
oh and peter you have have yet to find the positive in my comment.

Calne aint that bad, just a dozen or so idiots that think they own the town and can do what they like, especially when drunk/high. The kids that are a pain in the butt its primarily down to their upbringing and their lack of respect (dread to think what the parents are like!), generally when they get hollered back at they dissappear quite quickly
There are a few places in Calne know for being "rough" areas to live, and thats mainly down to just a few obnoxious families, where the parents are as bad if not worse than the kids.
Even the placid Isle of Wight had some scumbag families scattered around various towns, the only way to avoid these people and hassle is to move or get them moved. Having lived in a few places, I am more than happy to live out my life in Calne, just enough life (IOW was dead) but quiet when you need it
-having said all that, I still wouldnt mind living in a coastal farm away from everyone lol

Funny how in the decent area of Calne that I live i've never had any trouble, been threatened or had any noise pollution. Drug raids....unheard of!
Have you got a job or does the council give you a house? If the former Move off the Chav side and you might get less hassle!
If it's the council, what do you expect to happen in areas where most of the people have no jobs, mostly through their own fault!
|
abitmuch

thats a sweeping generalization don't you think!
I earn a good full time wage, but could never afford private rent or to buy. Not all people from council estates are CHAV's, in fact, some of the biggest snobs I know live in council houses!
|
Local lass
|
that is indeed a sweeping statement.most houses in my area is private .like all of calne there is a mix.so your thing of living in a council estate is utter boll ocks.
in thirty years of growing up in calne and living in and around calne i have lived in 4 different areas of calne.we bought a house in braemor road back in 2000 and dispite its reputation which is a huge mix of council and private we are selfs had no problems there, however around us we had stolen cars, drugs and the usal.on another part of calne there was burgularys, another we found to be surrounded by perves.
do i have a job?im a mother and student my other halfs works for the probations service.
all parts of calne has its good and bad sides, but give me a area of calne what dosnt have council houses mixed in.cos i cant think of one.

oh calnelife take off those rose tinted glasses
ive lived in calne now for over 40 years and i own two houses!
Calne is not as bad these days as it was back in the 80s but calne still does have its problems, drug raids although not as common now still go on,maybe not in your street but i bet just around the corner there has been one!
Being threatened by anyone is not nice, i personally have never had it happen to me, but one of my sons had someone attack him for no reason a couple of year back
No calne is not as bad as chippenham or other towns but then they are also bigger than calne, so for the size of calne it seems worse.
I still dont worry about walking the streets any time of the day or night.........i walk with two rotties by my side

It's all relative. I used to live in Leeds and if you wanted a council house somewhere as nice as Stokes Croft you'd be on like a ten year waiting list.

not far from there.
The new part of stokes croft is alfulll and is known as mini byruit .
The look is horrible becuase of the wood on the houses, kids often run riot around there and kids as young as two are out and about on there own in nappys at the park iin the dark.
church street is nice i also like patford street and castle walk.
did you know they very nearly demolished the amesbury houses in the 60s/

We are a classic West Country rural town. We like a fight, we like a cider and we like to enjoy ourselves. That is just the culture of this area. Calne has always been known as a bit wild!
How can someone 'escape from Stokes Croft'? I've been through there hundreds of times and never been imprisoned yet. Yes the new buildings are pretty crummy but the old ones were even worse. I've never encountered any violence at the Croft, just kids (literally kids, most of them look about 10) messing about.

The new buildings look alfull with the wood as the wood isnt done so looks all charred, what with that and the small rabbit warren of roads and the park where all the deliquent kids gogive me the older part of stoke anyday.
Talking of wood.the new precient does look good ,and what would have been the new woolworths store is a nice size .but why oh why did they put that wood at the top of that building?
is it going to get done each year or left to rot and look charred?
