Apart from paying to get the chimney swept and the initial cost of the wood burner the rest of its use is relatively free. The wood I burn is 90% scrap wood which is either off cuts from timber we use at work (4 * 2's, etc) or from salvaged timber like pallets or old door frames, fascia boards or trees that we have felled. The other 10% of wood comes from Studley Sawmills. I picked up some wood at the sawmills for a customer today and was very shocked to be told that a bag (the same sized bulk bag that sand and gravel comes in) is now £30.00. This time last year I was being charged £17.00 - how's that for inflation??

both our log burners have been on the go since we moved a couple of weeks ago (we are still burning logs that we cut a couple of years ago).
Got a couple of conifers to cut down this year, should be seasoned by next!

I burn any sort of wood on my wood burner, even the odd sleeper! I've burnt quite a bit of conifer/leylandii as well but always made sure it's pretty well seasoned because of the resin content of that wood. Also, a wood burner is much more efficient at getting rid of sensitive documents than any paper shredder.
