heating bills to raise 230 a year

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/vi...3555/Energy-bills-to-rise-by-230-

HOUSEHOLD fuel bills will rocket by more than £200 a year thanks to a new Government plan for “green” energy to be unveiled this week.

Ministers will announce ambitious proposals for more wind, wave and solar power generation across Britain to cut dependency on fossil fuels.

But Whitehall sources admit the move – to be unveiled at Westminster on Wednesday – will add around £230 to the average family’s £1,150 annual bill for gas and electricity.

should we really be forced to go green?

Go green or buy ever more gas from the Russians who run their energy companies a bit like the Mafia. 'You not like our prices? How about we turn off tap. See if you like our prices now.'

Build more nuclear!

Seriously look into air to heat pumps ....... i've seen many in use , they cost the same as a boiler to install and cost you ...... ermmm £75 PER YEAR to run ...... do it now before they become more expensive !

they have it cracked in certain parts of europe with state subsidies for home generation and then the state pays over the odds for any excess production.
this is their way of being "green" and breaking the russian, ever increasing stranglehold on gas supplies.

if our government is serious we should be doing the same. every household should have a right to install a standard wind generator without having to apply for planning permission.

in reality we have not been paying the actual cost of production for years, chickens are coming home to roost.

The problem there is that very few urban houses actually get enough wind to make turbines practical.
When anyone tries to put up a large turbine that would be effective all the nimbys come out and moan. They'd much rather have a fossil fuel power station just as long as they couldn't see it.

I heard on the news this morning that household fuel bills may be as much as 60% higher in 2016 than it is now!

even more reason (financial viability) for householders to start looking seriously at alternative energy.

- i will stick to log fires thanks!

On a slight tangent, don't you feel a bit confused about the reasoning behind this NASA rocket that has just impacted into the moon? They impacted a 2 ton rocket into the moon at 1.6 miles per second to create a plume of dust. In the dust they are hoping to find water, out of which they are confident of creating fuel for future lunar missions and as a launch pad into outer space. Now, call me a bit cynical here but haven't we got loads of the stuff on this planet already which begs the question: Why aren't we already using a resource that covers 75% of the planet rather than relying on using fossil fuels??????

log fires cannot gererate electricity to power all your gadgets (computer etc). if you are lucky enough to have a woodburning stove and have access to timber then great.
if we all had these stoves there would not be many trees left standing I suspect!

Our wood burner is the primary heat source for our downstairs living area. I am quite lucky in that I have access to lots of scrap, usable, timber with which to heat the lower area of my house. If I had to buy coal and wood to burn on a multi-fuel burner I can't see it being very economical as a primary heat source compared to modern radiators.

-erm, i beg to differ. There are many ways to convert heat into electric. one example, run a water pipe thru the back or top of the stove (similar to a back boiler) , use the pressure (or steam) created to power a small turbine, hey presto electric!
Countless ways of doing things like that, just got to put your mind to it.
Right, off to fell a few more trees, hate conifers anyway lol
Block67

-oh yeah, forgot to say, a good back boiler heats your water tank, saving loads of electric. (some of us dont have a gas supply)
As for the trees, conifers grow quickly, plant a few fell a few, ready fuel!

Poplar is also grown as a fuel source. I had my wood burner going from 2pm until midnight yesterday because it had got so nippy. Now that we are using it more and more I will start to put the kettle on it again so we can generate free hot water for the washing up, cups of tea/coffee and hot water bottles. Every little helps.

i love the smell of either cherry wood or apple wood on a real fire
