I cannot recall ever being told that I have been short changed by a shopkeeper so I never tell them.

I have been given too much change many times.
Independent shopkeeper - I give it back (£10 recently)
Big brand shops - I figure they have a contingency fund for staff mistakes

I'm obviously going to the wrong shops - I always get short changed or given foreign currency. I actually have a collection box at home where I put the foreigh currency I am given by shops.

I once was in a large supermarket, the checkout girl was gassing to her mate on the other till and ignoring me.
She gave me some change. Only after I put it in my wallet, did I realise she'd given me a £50 not a £10... Hey once you leave the shop, no mistakes can be rectified......

I don't think that's right: I believe that they actually expect staff to pay for till shortages out of their own pocket.
