General election 2010There will be a general election in 2010, a parliament is elected for 5 years and the current term finishes in June 2010.
This is the place to air your views as to what issues affect you or your family.
All 3 major parties have admitted, to different levels, that taxes will have to rise and that there will have to be cuts in services.

I think it is inevitable that we will be paying higher taxes to cope with buying our way out of recession. To say whether you are happy or not about paying these higher taxes depends on how prudent they are being used.

The NHS is already at breaking point, schools are under the screw and the police force are under manned to do their duty to the full potential. The only sort of cutbacks that has to be made is cutting out middle managers, red tape and useless schemes in our public services.

Ed Balls the education secretary thinks that he can cut £2 billion from the education budget.
I spent 8 years as a school governor with responsibility for finance. 95% of a schools budget is staffing costs so any cuts would have an adverse impact on teaching.

£2Billion!??!  There is already a large pupil to teacher ratio and surely any cut backs will further enlarge this ratio.

like the idea of scrapping parking at hospitals but unfortunately as an out patient you would still have to pay.
Brown seems to have come up with some interesting plans recently.
I am keen to scrap trident full stop, I see no reason why a 2 bit country (UK) should have A-bombs. This would save us billions and would mean that taxes won't need to go up by so much.

so after the party conferences is anyone the wiser about what will happen after the next election?
The big 2 seem to be trying to out bid each other with cuts in services and increases in taxes and we seem to be loving it!
