Local Lass: I was told long ago that garlic is easy to plant and crop.
Plant on the shortest day and pick on the longest - i.e. January 21 for planting and June 21 for cropping.
Enjoy.

Im sure Ive said this before. garlic is the hardiest of the onion family plant it in November to over winter. Harvest it at the end of the really hot summer we are going to have. Dont use supermarket bulbs thay are breed for hot climates buy bulbs from the garden centre .Break them up and plant in pots to give a good start before planting outside.

This may give you some ideas.
1 July 2007 Pulling Garlic and re-planting.
http://aipoh.notlong.com/ 1 July 2007 Pulling Garlic and re-planting the area. Pictures.
http://meiso.notlong.com/ 8 July 2007. Processing Garlic for further drying. The garlic will be dried thoroughly then stored in paper bags.

1 July 2007. Garlic was pulled today and the area planted with two rows of lettuce and one row of Joi Choi for later season use. "Durgan's Method" of planting small seeds is explained with pictures. The garlic was planted on the 15 of October in 2006, about a month before freeze-up.
Two garlic plants did not have the snake seed head (scapes) removed, and these were noticably smaller than the other bulbs. All the other bulbs were about the same size. These are slightly smaller than the crop of last year. This is attributed to insufficient watering. The quality is superb generally, and all would be marketable in the commercial world.
28 June 2008. There are still five bulbs from the 2007 crop, and they are in excellent condition, suggesting that my curing process was appropiate.
