The Landsdowne Inn In Derry Hill used to be a great place to eat about 20 years ago but has since been modernised (and ruined in the process) and it's not the same - different landlord, etc.

The George Inn at Sandy Lane is supposed to be a good place to go.
homer

do they sale donuts :D :D :D :D :D :D
Bear

If you like Chinese try the Memory of Beijing in Chippenham I,ve had some good meals in there.

We went to the Lansdowne Arms a few weeks ago. Top food, and friendly staff too. Great beer as well...
Local lass

what spoils the landsdowne for me is it was one of my locals.like many goods village pubs it has lost the home to home feel.

if i go for a meal i like the lysley.

I once went to the lansdowne in calne for a xmas meal. It was revolting. I would never recommend it. White heart is good for food. Not in calne i know, but i highly recommend the cricklade cafe for lamb shanks.
Local lass

i have heard the lansdowne does shocking food.
i have only ever been in the white hart once and never again

there ws four of us and we had booked a mealwe sat down and looked at the menu.a waitress of about 16 came over to take the order.
i asked her what was in the sea food cocktail she replyed sea food :?

on the menu there was steak but no wieght of the steakso i asked her how big the steak was she went off (and this no word of a lie)she came back opened her hands to about20 cm and said its about this big :?

i honestly thought we were part of a wind up.

so i asked the waitress if she had a pay phone she said that i could use the phone what was near the bar.
and whist she was watching i rang the talbot to see if they had space and left.

Trust me, the food in the Lansdowne is great. Pubs rely on their chef, the present landlord has a good chef. The food is tasty and fresh. I had lamb medallions on garlic mash.

We haven't been out for many meals over the past 4 years, but this was really good.

Give it a try......
Local lass

might have to have a trip back up the lansdowne

Bangers and mash eh, pimpdriver?

Don't you just love it when some restaurants get really pretentious over how they advertise their menu?
Local lass

bangers and mash is the origanal pub grub.

i used to go to a pub about ten years back every friday for tea.
they would serve homemade steak and kidney pie mash and peas/gravy all for 3.50 it was the type of pub where people came straight from work to you had all sorts in there.when you walked in you were greeted by a barage of hellos even though you didnt know them.#
there was a log fire which gave the warmth to the room.
it was a fantastic place.

unfortunatley its changed hands and its got more comercial and they no longer do food.

I happened to be driving past the White Hart pub in Lyneham on Tuesday night when I noticed that the "La Bottes" Italian restaurant which used to be next door to the pub appears to have changed into an Indian one. Has anyone used it and if so how was it.
