Fairford Airshow 18th July 2009We all went to the Fairford air tattoo today in Gloucestershire. After queueing for nearly an hour in traffic to get in, being frisked by security staff and having all our baggage checked we finally got into the event! We were extremely lucky with the weather and so the visibility was pretty good to watch the different planes perform their acrobatics at altitude. We watched a very impressive Saab Gripen perform some neat tricks. There was also an F18 Hornet being put through its paces finished off by doing a fast, low pass 100 feet above the runway at mach 0.9.
We watched the usual display of the Avro Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane but the real treat was the return of the Avro Vulcan bomber after its last air tattoo 15 years ago. Those engines still have a mighty roar and everybody cheered as the plane careered up the runway ready for take-off.
What a beauty!!

saw the Vulcan in 92 at Warbirds @ Wroughton what an awesome plane worth the admittance money alone, only that and Concorde could make everyone stop dead and look up
