Clicker taining is used as a distraction, we used it for max our german shepperd (we rescued him and he had no training) although it does work it is something you have to do regular.
The best method is "praise" if the pup does something good ie: goes to toilet on his paper, give him a treat and make a fuss of him, if he misses dont say or do anything to him, just clean up!
I also use my finger (hold my first finger up) for simple commands such as sit, they get used to it and you can in the end just hold the finger up and they will know what you want.
Hold the hand up for stay etc.
I also clap my hands when i call them.
Also get the pup used to having his food dish taken away whilst he's eating, the last thing you want is a dog that no one can get near when he's eating.
The most important thing is that the pup knows his place in the pack (your family) he has to know who is "top dog".
In my "pack" i am "top dog" the dogs all know if i give a command it has to be done.
If the dog does something naughty (my pup is chewing at the min) so a small tap on the nose is all he needs.
never lose your temper, hit or kick the pup, he will know you are strugling to keepp "top dog" position and he will play on it.
Good luck
