Do you want wool worths in calne?

http://www.gazetteandherald.co.uk...anger_over_town_redevelopment.php

A lady has said that people of calne do not want a wool worths so i thought i would put it to the vote.
Kizzy

She's only upset because her cafe is not getting much trade - not being funny but maybe she should actually advertise it
Local lass

Woolworths is just what calne needs.hopefully more high street names will follow.

Pinning your hopes on regeneration because of a certain shop going there seems to be rather foolish to me. I don't see how that's going to make much of a difference, especially at night when it'll be closed anyway.

That "lady" obviously is talking for herself and out of her ****, and she doesn't speak for the people of calne, or does she think she is the mayor or something??
Calne could do with something like woolworths, and hopefully some others will follow suit.
Local lass

shes is in the paper this week as well as her window was smashed and she says her 999 call was cut off.but i thought you were not ment to call 999 unless a real emergancy .

I think you only have to look at all the other towns in the area to see that giving the right amount of trade being generated by the presence of a major retailer like Woolworths that this could be a good move that maybe will bring back to Calne those people who at presnet shop elsewhere and one would assume that this would improve the takings of small cafe owners as well so whats her problem

there's a Woolworths in Chippenham it's overpriced on the 360 front, I use amazon  Roll eyes

Pink Planets rubbish as well

I've not seen much of the plans, but where is the Woolworths going to go? are there any other shops being built along with it?

I think part of the problem attracting larger stores to Calne is that there aren't many large shop premises to move into, although it's obviously a bit of a chicken and egg situation. Nevertheless, there's nothing really available that's the size of, say, WHSmiths in Chippenham.

From what i understand they are knocking down kwik save and the flats above it.this is where wool worths will go.
The little garden at the back of the christian book shop will be opened up in to a garden where people can sit and have have lunch.
Above woolworths they are intending to build 16 flats. The thing about this though is that they are only providing 10 parking places Roll eyes
I will see if i can find a link with some better information on regarding the plans .

I found this link which has more info:

doesn't actually look that bad.. I agree that 10 parking spaces is a bit poor..
Local lass

i was talking to someone about the parking decision .he said they decided to do it like that because the flats will be affordable housing(council houses).aparrently statistics show that only 1 in 3 houses have a car so by right out of the 16 flats there should only be five cars  and they decided to give them a extra three car parkings spaces.
i would love to know where they get that from. Roll eyes

Only 1 in 3 houses have a car. Good grief those must have been the statistics from the 1980s everywhere I have lived recently has had more like at least 1 per house.

I think that would be pretty accurate for poorer people in this country.

Define nice?
I have a 'nice' car, but it is an 11 years old Vauxhall Astra that a lot of people would call a shed.
My next door neighbour however, had an S reg Volvo. This imho is a bit pricey for a single mum to drive. I think Daddy pays for it.

I wasn't getting at you clunk, i know your at home with your kids and i think thats great. My ex Husband however has very little to do with his daughter and spends all of his benefits( over £200.a week) on his car, a convertable audi. Its people like him that make me cross  :x

is there room for the parking spaces anyway? that area around the  back of Phelps Parade isn't that big, especially when you take into account the servicing areas of the shops..
Local lass

according th the gazette today they have extended it to 10 places.
