Some more photos of Derry Hill School which were taken in the early 1920's.

The only information I have on this photograph is that the teachers were a Mr & Mrs. B Collett. Can anybody else put some names to these faces? Note the horse and cart coming up Derry Hill high Street.

The only person I can identify on this photograph is my Grandmother, Gertrude Cleverley (later to become Gertrude Hickman) who is standing 2nd in from the right hand side.

That's not a wall it a wooden fence it ran the whole length of church road .

the new railings at derry hill school make the school look more like a prison.what was wrong with the last lot?
Adrian007

I expect health and safety got rid of the last lot - the support struts could trip you up, especially if you were at the end in a game of chain tag...

Did anyone practice their climbing on the stone wall - I remember the ones on Beano's (Mr Gear) classroom were good.

Mr Gear was a good chap. Funny to see that photo of him looking very young!
Local lass

mr gear must of beem before my time.
I had mr bellemy as head master. Then as teachers i had mrs parker, mrs perret, mrs clarke, mrs hooper,.
Adrian007

I rmember Mrs Parker - her sons weres were a bit younger than me.

I also remember Miss Hooper - she started while I was there and, well, we didn't see eye to eye!
Local lass

did anyone see eye to eye with mrs hooper?
although i have to say Mrs perret was worse
I never went to derry hill untill i was seven when we moved to studley .until then i had lived in calne and never once had seen a squirel.i remember getting a right telling of cos i told every one there was a squirell outside and we were ment to do are work.
Local lass

Adrian did you ever do the may pole dancing?
Adrian007

I certainly remember country dancing - I don't remember a maypole.
Local lass

The maypole used to be by the hall doors.we had to practice for months.
i used to do country dancing with mrs perret.

Here's a photograph taken of a Derry Hill School class in 1957/58.

I will add all the names to the faces in the next 48 hrs or so.
Adrian007

Wow - I forgot there were trees behind that wall - they were taken down when the new building was built and the car park ended up there, so I guess 1976 ish.
Local lass

is that where the carpark is  now just behind the wall?
Adrian007

That's right
