They have built some really nondescript houses by the Studley Crossroads in the past year (behind the old village hall). The stone built houses look fine and will blend into the village because of the use of a natural material similar to what is used in the close proximity. The houses directly behind the stone built ones on the other hand wouldn't look out of place in Abberd Way in Calne - they are built using concrete block with a painted rendered finish which matches nothing in the village. The planners have got this design very wrong!

What I can't understand about these houses, which are supposed to be "affordable", is that they match nothing in the vicinity of where they are located. Derry Hill is predominantly a stone built or stone coloured (bradstone, etc) village so how they can get away with having rendered houses which are then painted white is beyond me. :?

The stone built ones (going towards Bowood white gates) are too orange for my liking! You can get those stones in many shades, they seem to have the wrong one to match the houses opposite.
The render is "K-Rend" available in many colours, it is self coloured and isn't painted afterwards.

They all look the same though. There is no original on that site or indeed most estates which is a great shame .
down in studley apart from the council houses in norley lane all the houses are completly different.
Derry was a fantastic village to grow up around it is just a shame how it is now.its a mini pewsham
