Country Life

According to a survey more than half of Britons think that the countryside is boring and are unable to identify common birds, plants and animals. A third went on to say that they'd never consider going to visit a rural area.

The survey was conducted by One Poll on behalf of the Travel Lodge Company. During the poll these interesting facts about the gaps in the British public knowledge came to light.
One in ten people could not identify a sheep   , 44% couldn't recognise an oak tree and a staggering 83% failed in their attempts  to identify a bluebell. How incredible is that ?

Well, at least that keeps the ill educated idiots out of the countryside and in the cities where they belong!

Now lets see.

Cherhill downs with the dog and wife,                                             Or a day at Legoland uuugh.

I may be knackered when i get to the monument but the view is great and ive still got that £100 in my pocket.

My thoughts exactly! I‘ve been to the Monument up there many times with different vvisiting friends but got to the entrance of Legoland and turned around when I saw the prices (visited Windsor instead).

Nothing quite like sitting up there, watching the world go by, with the Sheep, bleating away in the background .... "Bleat , bleat "

I would rather sit upon a hill and watch the clouds go by than go to somewhere like Disneyland. I went to London for the first time in about 15 years last year and I couldn't wait to get away from the place - it's full of ignorant people, nasty fumes and lots of cars! I would rather have the waft of cows manure, freshly cut grass/hay and the noise of animals than what you have to put up with in a city.

ive always fancied disney land in florida.as for london that is the extreme it always reminds me of  a colony of ants.i love going to the shows in london but thats it.certainly one place i could never live.
i would sooner have a cliff top over looking the sea.

Theres a little place in cornwall i try to go for a week every year, its a chalet on a cliff overlooking the sea,  it is heaven sitting on the balcony watching that big fat sun decend into the sea.

I was in Bristol city centre on Saturday and the fumes were awful, not forgetting the noise either. One thing we did notice about the city centre is how clean it is and the vast amount of cctv cameras about the place. It was great to get back home in the peace and quiet of the countryside.

We all live in the countryside so I would expect to read the comments made.

I am sure that most of us have spent some enjoyable time in cities.
Madrid, Paris, Rome, Tangiers, Verona, London, Barcelona and many more are cities I have visited at some time and have good memories.

Despite enjoying time in cities I always look forward to returning to Calne.

Its a shame that more people don;t look after it better and stop dumping litter all over the place. North Street/Lickhill Road on a Saturday morning is litter filled, with the plastic trays from the kabab shop being the worse offender!

I have visited some lovely cities, not only in this country but also in Europe. I love Milan but I wouldn't swap my desire to live in the country for a life in the city. I can't stand the relentless noise, fumes and ignorant people as they barge past you in a quest to get from A to B in the fastest time possible. I'd much prefer the lower paid, slower way of life we have in the more rural parts of the country.

I did some work for a young couple up faringdon way they moved out of London a year earlier and could not wait to get back there said the country was toooo quiet.

I had a neighbour like that. She had moved from Bristol into the house next door and couldn't sleep properly because it was too silent?  They only stayed for 2 years and moved onto Devizes because it was too quiet.
