Calne leisure centre.

Calne's only public leisure centre was built in 1976. It was built for the use of the people of Calne including schools in the town who used the facility for swimming lessons and other activities.
Due to financial reasons the centre closed in March 2007.

A group of local residents and business professionals came together to fight to get the centre back up and running for the people of Calne.
Despite acts of vandalism and the amount of work involved they never gave up, and on  Friday the 4th of January 2008 the centre opened its door once again.

The results are amazing, the whole of the centre has been spruced up and is now a place Calne can be proud of. The work that has been carried out includes the upstairs having a new ceiling fitted, new canteen/bar and has been refurbished with 12 brown leather two seater sofa's.
The reception area have been fitted out with a new counter  and a change of colours.
The fitness rooms have all new up to date facilities which also include video/audio equipment.
All broken tiles in the pool hall have been replaced, changing rooms have been refurbished including all shower heads and controls.
Also the centre has been re-painted and re-carpeted throughout.

The leisure centre has a great deal to offer for people of all ages and all levels of fitness.

Walking through the door the first port of call is the reception where you are greeted by friendly staff  to help you on your quest.

Taking a tour of the facility it is easy to see where the work has been done, the whole building looks fresh, clean and very professional.

The leisure centre has a lot to offer, including
swimming where there is plenty for everyone, you can choose from casual, adult only and for families they have fun with floats, family swim and a toddler swim. For the more disciplined amongst us there is  lane swim.
Personally, I love the idea of the moonlight swim with relaxing music and underwater lights.

There is also a fully upto date gym with excellent facilities for all levels of fitness.

They also have much improved squash courts with a viewing gallery.

They hold regular badminton sessions, played in the main hall.

They also have plenty of fitness programmes to suit whatever fitness level you are, these include circuit training, step attack, yoga, tums and bums and even hula hooping.

After your excerise you can take time out and relax in the new upstairs canteen/bar.

The canteen/bar is managed by The Patch of Blue.

There really is something for everyone and so much more. For the facilities they offer it is also the cheapest in the Calne area.
The people of Calne have nearly lost this facility once do NOT let it happen again .

Just a quick up date

The leisure centre now has over 400 members and we have sold over 800 Advance Booking Cards (ABC cards) which allows you to book a week in advance.

We are seeking quotes, as funds have been identified which we hope to obtain, for a lift to give full disabled acess to the social area.

We have funding for a climbing wall and quotes are being sought.

TV;s are to be installed in the social area, buisness suite and activity suite.

A comedy evening is being planned.

There will be a busy schedule of holiday activities available this summer.

The best way to find out whats happening is to visit the centre on a regular basis. We are always on the look out for new ideas, please let us knoow if you have one.

When I was in the 4th and 5th years at Bently circa 1983-1985 if you didn't go to the Sports Centre social area on a Friday night, you were a zero

The sports centre...can't believe it closed. Glad it's open again for nothing other than sentimental reasons.

I used to swim there every day (swimming club) , sometimes twice + played Badminton, plus hung around on a Thursday, Friday and Sunday night
