Calne has alot of housing planned at the moment !

I can think of 4 big developments in the pipelins for planning, all outside of the "special" red line..

1. White horse way by the sports centre 240 houses.

2. The top of Penhill road, a few hundred more

3. Behind rookery park .... a few hundred more !!!!!!!

4. Longbarrow close in curzon park is another 30ish

ohh ohh

5. Curzon street theres another 10 there being builot already.

So all in all eerm...... thats about 500 plus houses, times that by 3 people per house ..that adds another 1500 people to the town . in the space of 18 months if they all go through ......

Can we cope with all this building or should provisions be made by the developers to include money towards new schools and infrastructure  ie roads, shops etc...

there is also approx 12 houses in Lickhill road plus the garage site in London road (9), so another 21 (approx) to add to the total.

Garage site planning has been withdrawn (for now)

On the flip side, if there's so many houses being built that must mean that Calne is a future place of choice for many to live!
Peter Dolman

that may be a one opinion but many wish that there is a requirement to consider the impact of new housing on those who already live in the town. currently no consideration is made about the infrastructure and services provided.
ie doctors/dentists/schools/shops etc etc

i agree Peter its not coping with the population as it is let alone more people

Very good points on housing here all the more reason why we should insist that 106 contributions come from these if they are granted. A 106 payment is a contribution to the infrastructure there are open space contributions as well I will draw Tony Trotmans attention to this he is Chair of the planning Committee which meets this Weds at 1800hrs in Chippenham I am subbing there that night.

Section 106 monies are a bribe and the money is very seldom spent on projects to help the community which suffers from the planning blight. Monies for traffic calming in Lickhill Road and Duncan Street are still unspent after 6 years with no plans in the offing. Does that make sense?

Let no one be persuaded other wise we don't want 106 money we don't want the uncontrolled developement which is currently happening in Calne.

The town council and the area board should sit down, quickly, and agree an overall strategy for the town and stick to it. Untill it is agreed there should be no more building allowed!
Chuck

Peter that is a little more difficult than it sounds as well you know the strategy is already set in the Regional Spatial Strategy and this will need to be updated. The TC would have had input at the time.

Nothing is uncontrolled onterwise we would not be offered to consult on the various large developments - and if you feel strongly then consult is what you must do. Having said that on appeal (which is out of Council control) if the development is within the RSS guidelines then it may well go through.

Cheers,

Chuck
