Ah Yes! But it is needed, with 3 of us accessing the internet at the same time, 2 of which are playing online games.

Mine is supposed to be 8 meg but I bet it's no more than 2. :roll: Apparently the Japanese have 100 mb speeds as standard. :shock:

I get confused with all of this stuff..... are you talking about the speed of our broadband ?
I am capable of 7mbps, if thats what you mean ....... and i thought that was about the max on the calne exchange ?!

Internet speeds are confusing. They are meant to be.
So called 8meg broadband is not 8 megabytes, it is 8 megabits. Which in turn is 800kilobytes. So 8meg broadband = 800 kilobytes per second. = a cd worth of data in 100 seconds.
2 meg broadband = 2 megabits = 252 kilobytes per second. = a cd worth of data in 350 seconds.
Dial up = 52 kilobites per second = 5 kilobytes per second = a cd worth of data in 15,000 seconds.

And still used by 15% of the uk, and 40% world wide.
The surprising thing is that broadband is cheaper to supply then dial up.
