Bring back the dog licence?

After yet another fatal dog attack on a child, would you that have dogs be happy to pay for a dog licence?
Top Dog

Much of it is bad breeding if you breed from a nasty bitch you get a nasty pup.More control needs to happen over the breeding.
A licence wouldnt help it would just mean more money the goverment can screw out of us.

IIRC the dog license never went. Just that so many people never bothered with a license, that they never enforced it.
Now if only we would do the same for the tv license and road fund license. . . . . . . .

Not really sure i agree top dog, i think its more to do with how the dog is brought up,and they home life they recieve, dogs are intelligent enough to be taught.
We have a G/S that was badly mis-treated by his last owner it has taken us a lot of time to work with him, but now he's one of the family and has settled in (and doesn't attack anyone that comes near me)
I think a licence would help the kc keep track of who has what dog, i think i would pay for a licence.

any dog has the ability to attack anyone it is in the dna.
but a lot is to do with the breed of dog you get,the dogs back groundie you wouldnt have a fully trained hunting dog in your home.now would you or a domberman guard dog.
i would also agree that you should never breed from a bad bitch.
i know someone who has staffis and they were bred from a bad bitch the pups in question has attacked other staffis including there own mother ,has already bitten a child. and most of tnhem now has been destroyed.

I also have a German shepered/alsation cross. (yes there is a difference between the 2 breeds) He was abused by his previous owners. He lives with my Mum now as my garden is too small.
He has bitten people, but is fine with my kids. Mainly people with hats on. He has bitten a postman, policeman and a Doctor. First two cause they had hats on, and the doctor because he walked into my house.

Your right any dog has the ability to bite, but its up to the owner to control the dog.
I have 5 dogs, i am top dog, they do as i say, not through fear but through love and respect which goes both ways.
I know someone who has just taken on an ex guard dog, a rottie, they have no experance with any sort of dog and they have children. its people like this that give the breed a bad name, its an accident waiting to happen.
Clunk my B/S bite someone just a little while ago, luckly he realised that it was his fault, he put his hand through my front gate!
Geddi

I worked in an animal rescue centre some years ago which specialised in finding homes for very difficult to house dogs.  It was a surprise that the most common breed of dog which serious bit both animals and people, including children, were collies.  Collies are highly intelligent working dogs with sacks of stamina and they expect a lot of attention and interaction.  Many people get them thinking they are great for pets with kids as they are playful.  This is not so and later people discover this to their cost.

Best way to ensure no more kids, or adults or anything, gets bitten by dogs is to insist they wear muzzles in public and remain on leads.  Seems highly restrictive to all those who love their wonderful, fluffy, cuddly, darling, little doggy-woggies, but then again, it's a small price to save another mauling!

As i've said before i have 5 dogs, whilst i agree with most of what your saying geddi, i would not muzzle any of them.

1. if an other dog attacks them they would have no chance
2. i walk them mainly late at night, if anyone wanted to attack me the dogs wouldnt be able to help with a muzzle on.
3. none of my dogs are let off thier leads
4. i never let people stroke them
5. they are under control at all times and only take orders from whoever is walking them.

sorry i do tend to rant over dogs because so many people slate them, its not the dog its the owner!
