Like I said in another post on another thread you cant blame the builders as they will cram in as many buildings as they can into a space to increase the reurn on their investment but you can blame the planners who allow it to happen

Calne already has a slum

Think of victorian england with buildings to close together, 3 or 4 stories high, no gardens, nowhere for the kids to play, schools not big enough........decease and decay. And bow think of most new housing developements, take a walk down past the old Dunstan house and get worried very worried. In 30 years time when it's not all fresh and new it's going to be awfull there !. Thank you Government... Thank you very much indeed !

the big difference is though it that there wasnt so many cars in the victorian times either.

just got back from Bristol my god what a concrete jungle that is and theres loads of new buildings going up every where you look ,not houses but it looks like offices or somthing. I was glad to get home .
Local lass

The flats has always had a bad rep.although i knew someone who lived in one and they are quite nice flats.
bad reps move around quite a few years ago braemor road had a very bad rep now its fine.
daffy

A lot of the houses in Braemor rd now is privatly owned .
Didnt Braemor road hold ""key" partys ? years ago
Local lass

70  per cent 0f houses up braemor is still council.
a lot of poeple brought when the right to buy scheme came in .
daffy

ISNT THAT SUPPOSED TO BE THE OTHER WAY AROUND LOCAL LASS ?
i would rather buy a solid built house in Braemor road than these new houses that are like rabbit hutches , a friend of mine has moved into one on the by pass and she said when you knock on the walls they sound hollow.

That's cos the old houses were "wet plastered" onto solid brick. New houses are "dot and dabbed" plasterboard (drylined) so sound hollow as the plasterboard is 1/2" off the brick......

At least new houses have decent foundations........

My house is over 200 years old, the walls are around 2ft thick. I wonder how many of these new house will still be standing in 200 years time.
Local lass

i would sooner have a old house i think.there is more space and more unique ness .the new ones are so the same same and most are only 10 ft away from other houses.now adays they sem to cram them in where ever they can.new houses have hardly any garden and most are like postage stamps.

What a jaded and uninformed viewpoint.

Have you been to the sales office in Lansdowne Park? Some of the gardens are huge. The houses are well designed too.

We moved from a Victorian terrace in Bristol and wouldn't go back to old houses, unless it was totally refurbed.

New houses are energy efficient too.

depends of your view for a huge garden to me its a garden where you can grow stuff have a patio area, and a large lawn.
landowne park  is to built up the roads are not wide anough and its like a little rat run.
the inside of the houses are well designed but for me  they are just to close together.
thinking about it there are a few nice houses down there .the older part of lansdowne park is quite nice the ones over looking the green part.its the ones in the middle i dont like.
pimpdriver

I'm not too keen on the ones on Zander Road as you go in from the Lickhill road roundabout. It is  a bit like legoland and everyone does park on the road - what if a fire engine had to get down???

However if you go into Stickleback Road from the bypass, them ones are nice. Bit pricey though!
Local lass

if any of those houses like you say needed a fire enginge down they couldnt go down it.
its amazing how stupid people park.
not really sure where stickle back road is.the houses what remind me of lego town is the ones if you go straight on from the shop the only road i know down there is poppy close which to me is a little lego town
the houses i like are if you come out of carpenters close take the first left follow that road round and there is big square piece of grass and there are a few houses tucked into the corner i do like those.
pimpdriver

here is stickleback road

http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|stickleback%20Road

more spaced out houses.
