Hi I am doing research on my family going back to Calne, notably Robert deBlakeland. Anyone know of the Blakeland/Blackland, does it still exist as an area? Thank you, Bill Blake

Hi Bill good to see you here,
Yes Blackland is still there. My wife was brought up there and as we met when we were 15 i have alot of fond memories of the place ..... I also have access to the Wiltshire family history centre as i am tracing my own family ..... if you'd like to know more .... just ask ! |

Just found my great, great, great grandfather from Calstone born in 1801 he made whitening from chalk as a paint for houses. My grandfather Harold Green & great grandfather Clare Green made the dewpond on the downs just below the monument.

The dewponds were for the sheep on the hillside. The springs all appear farther down the hills.

Martin,
Could you post some names and dates regarding the above posts? It may be of some use to people who are researching their family tree.
