|
|
Anyone have any information on the twin antennas visible from Calne? (look East towards the Cherhill monument - they seem to be near Morgan's Hill and the North Wilts Golf Club). They don't appear to have much attached to them (in the form of microwave dishes, etc.) so I was curious as to their use.

I know in my day (the 70s) they were for the police and ambulance radios.

Just checked them out and they are redundent police radio masts. The lease ran out on them in 2006. Always remember my father saying they were emergency services masts.

The only use for them now is as a target to aim at when playing the 8th hole at North Wilts Golf Club.
You can walk up quite close to them as there are many public rights of way including one across the golf club. But if walking the latter check out who playing that day as your life may be at risk!!!!!!!!
