How many members of this forum has a wood burner or would like one?

There is a growing demand for the installation of wood burners to combat rising oil, gas and electric prices. You can use redundant pallets, fallen branches/trees and other free fuel sources to power these devices. At the Studley Sawmills you can get a "ton bag" of fire wood for about £17 at the moment which is from surplus materials not used in the timber industry.

I have a basic Villager model which I have had for about ten years. I heat a large kettle on mine which we use for the washing up and cups of tea, which saves water being heated electrically - as well as heating up the majority of the house. With some models of woodburner you can get a back boiler fitted to heat the radiators in the house.

whats to stop you burning wood on a open fire?

Nothing stops me Local Lass. I burn wood now. I want a wood burning stove because it is more efficient, as I said.

We had an open fire for a few years until I read somewhere that 80% of the heat generated goes straight up the chimney. It was one of the best moves I have made whilst at this house to install our woodburner. You still lose a certain percentage of heat up the chimney but not as much as an open fire. Because of the design of woodburners you get as much heat out of the fire as possible with the use of fire bricks and baffle plates not to mention the air vents and chimney dampner. A bag (fertiliser sack) of reclaimed wood will heat the majority of my house plus boil half a dozen kettles for one night. How's that for thrifty?? :thumbr:
