Wasn't sure where else to put this one, so it ended up here!
Last year me and the missus decided on the spur of the moment to spend our anniversary going off for a drive. We ended up driving over the Brecon Beacons, stopped at a small pub in the middle of nowhere and had lunch. We then ended up going to Corris in north wales, had a gander round a disused mine (not for the claustraphobic), then decided to head eastward across wales to get back to the motorway on the way back.
It was the first time I had driven through so much of wales, and despite the miles we both thought it was great. There were plenty of stopping points to get out and have a wander, and the scenery was breathtaking over the Beacons.
We done it in a day (spur of the moment+mad!), when I go back I would prefer to take a couple of days at least.
We are planning this year to hopefully take my father in law (aged 81) up Snowdon as he has never been there (nor have I!), obviously staying overnight prior to the "climb". We are going to cheat a bit though, we are planning to take the summit train as they have disabled access for wheelchair users, which I think is excellent these days, then it will be up to me to push him to the top.

| Oh, and while you are in the area, have a look around Dinorwic quarry. |

WoW! Memories come flooding back from when I was a kid... I went up Snowdon in a train with my family. It was weird as the engine pushes the train up from the back. Might even go up backwards? It's quite a few more years than I care to remember.
The view of clouds and other wooly looking things (which I think were sheep) was spectacular. _________________ Democracy is dead. |

I worked on the edge of the Brecon Beacons for a couple of weeks during one winter time and it certainly isn't for the faint hearted - cold and very wet!! Wales is a lovely place to go visit and you can be there within the hour from Calne. We had a walking holiday there nearly 10 years ago around the Cardigan Bay area which was very nice - if your into nature and geology.
Never done Snowdon yet but one day................................ _________________

Very much into nature and geology. Love it....
I studied Environmental science in the early 1990s. My lecturer told a tale about a guy who did a MSc by riding around Wales on a small motorbike. Everytime he changed gear he put a tick on a map (or something). He disproved the original Masters 10 years later for his PhD by the same method. Mad as a bag of squirrels. He passed both times.
