I think its about time Calne had a station once again. Calne is now a big place and im sure it would get used.

| Where would it go, and how would it connect to the existing system? A spur line, like Calne had, would never bring in much traffic now that there's no Harris factory to use it. |

It's a wond!erfull romantic idea
Did you know there were once plans for the midland and southern railway to run a track right through calne, it was planned to go along the line of oxford road and connect near chippenham one end and Marlborough the other i believe .. i've seen the plans !
I'd love a railway way here again and would use it everyday too !
But i dont think it'll ever happen. |

| I wouldnt want one here now .bit different if they were steam trains .but would you really want to hear trains wizzing through the town at all hours? |

Is noise-pollution really a problem? It's never bothered me when I've been within earshot of a line. I just don't see how it can happen, given how extraordinarily expensive these undertakings are nowadays and the near impossibility of it ever making a profit. |

I don't think noise pollution would be a problem. I also think that it would be highly unlikely that there would ever be a rail link in Calne again. When you think that so much land would have to be compulsorily purchased it would cost a small fortune even before a track was laid - unless you used the old route. _________________

no a railway would never come back to town.if it did it would be nice if it was just calne to chippenham line with a steam train.
that would bring a lot in to the town.
noise would be a huge issue in the town since the last station they have built a housing estate. |

A nice idea, but....
1. the cost of the tickets for a trip to chippenham would cost more than going by car.
2. it will never happen - we have a good road and bus link along the same route - doesnt the 55 bus run every 20mins now?
3. Part of the installation cost might be paid for by an increase in council tax - does this taint the dream?
......on the other hand, where a work, nearly all the young folk cant drive (unlike my day!). Could this trend lead to a a heavier requirement on public transport, which may result in more train links - or just more bus capacity, which would be cheaper to bring on line. |

There is no way this would happen and the amount of tax payers money in today climate make this a no-no!
Anyway, there is nothing in Calne to entice anyone to stop...
