Should this country offer compensation to the nations that we took slaves from over 200 years ago or has too much time elapsed? Should we set a worldwide precedent on this type of action and pay for our past misdemeanours and move on into the future with a clear conscience?
Debate please....................

Nope .
I never see the point of a nation saying sorry to the people it bombed or treated in a war either.at the time it happened they were at war.
as for slaves no amount of compensation should be payed out what so ever. |

The comments so far mirror those that appeared on another forum regarding slavery (apart from Clunks!).
I think that an apology is quite far enough as far as guilt is concerned. The world was a far different place back then and we have all come a long way forward since then. _________________

England/Britain led the world in the abolition of slavery and fought it all over the world.
There were millions of black slaves taken from Africa and used by Europeans to create vast amounts of wealth from plantations in the Americas. There were also an estimated 2 million slaves were taken from Western European shores during the dark ages by North African/ Moorish slavers who occasionally took entire villages from Western Ireland and such remote locations all around Europe.
What was then was then. Draw a line and move along now. Learn from the past and move on.
There are, in some lights, more than one type of slavery going on today: -
1) Within the sex industry and fed mainly with Eastern European girls.
2)Debt! How many of us are enslaved to the APR we pay daily from our wages?
3)Sweat shop labour. _________________ Democracy is dead. |

Totally agree with you there, Geddi. People forget that slavery wasn't just restricted to the coloured races. _________________

If slavery had never happened, where would the next of kin be now ..... Africa.
Yes it was in many cases a bad thing to have happened but alot of good has come from it too ...... Would Obama be where he is now, if it was not for slavery ?
I mean this from a pure talking point and not from any right or wrong point of view ........ just makes you think !. |

No, it's way too late to offer compensation, they're all dead now.
Nope, this country throws enough of its money away on silliness, about time it stopped. |
