The Linnet at Great Hinton - between Devizes and Trowbridge on the A361.
We had a meal there on Friday night which was ok. All the food is "home made" by an award winning chef and at £35 per head (inc. drinks) it ought to be good!!
For a starter I had a confit of duck terrine served with a rhubarb and ginger consommé. The terrine, which was served with a small salad and a couple of sliced pieces of walnut bread, was delicious and full of flavour.
For a the main course I had the "award" winning dish of prune stuffed tenderloin of pork, wrapped in smoked bacon and served on garlic potatoes. There was some spinach that had been seared in a pan that had been put in at too high a temperature which ended up being crispy in places and the carrots (which were sprinkled with sesame seeds) tasted like they had been reheated. I commented to my wife that if this was the award winning dish then I hate to think what the other entries were like.
For the sweet dish I had Strawberry and Elderflower cheesecake which was quite nice. The slice of cheesecake was quite large and had a lovely delicate flavour which combined the two ingredients.
The service was very good and quite prompt. There wasn't much of an atmosphere in the pub because at 10.30pm we were the last people in there!!
