was listening on the radio this morning and despite animal protests the seal clubbing is still going ahead, the only difference is that they now have to cut the artery under the flipper to bleed them before they get skinned to make sure that they are not just knocked out but are dead.
from what i understand they can shoot ,or club the seal to death.

what do you guys make of the whole think.
on the one hand i think its so bloody cruel its unbeliveable but on the other i think well actulley no different really than some of the things we do in this country.
so on the fence really.

Here's the thing as far as I am concerned - it's a commercial venture dressed up as a necessary evil to 'cull' the numbers of seals.  Why?  What right do people have to think they can make things better for a species by killing a few they decide to.  Are they gods now who know which should live and which should die?  It wouldn't bother me as much if they simply said: "We like to bash these cute seal pups' heads in with sticks.  bugger off and mind your own."  At least we'd know they're being honest about it.

I also wonder if we'd all feel as bad if the seals were ugly as rusty barbed wire instead of big eyed and cute looking?

Nice pic above, all cute and fwuffy....awwww.....   Roll eyes

If they are to cull an animal for whatever reason (over polulation, disease, etc) then they should use the most humane method possible and not just the cheapest option, ie. clubbing. They should be killed using a single shot to the head.

There are 6 billion people and counting.  Who shall be the one to name those and cull those who are excess?

Culling is the same as killing.  There is no need ever for culling.  Nature sorts out problems of over crowding.

Nature does indeed step in to sort the numbers out but would you like to see animals die slowly of disease because of overcrowding? If culling has to be done it should always be done humanely.
