brought a crown of rubarb and planted some seed going back a few weeks.
the intended home for them is in a old tin bath which we have in the garden which is empty.
i plan to fill it with compost then plant them in .
i have heard that you are ment to put horse muck mixed in the soil with it.
just when do you do this ?
when you plant it or for over the winter?

Plant it now with as much manure as you can get. Cover the crown with straw or I've used strawy manure to force it. You can put a bucket over it if you wish to get those young sweet sticks.Don't cut it pull it and dont compost (or eat) the leaves they contain oxalic acid.

Pot them up when they are big enough to handle. Dont be tempted to use too big a pot 3.5inch is plenty big enough. Will be a few years before you can crop them. Dont forget to cover the plant for early sticks.
