This was from my sons school news letter.
PUPIL HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME
Important notice to all parents
The Local Authority Local Code of Conduct in respect of
Penalty Notices issued for truancy now includes
unauthorised pupil holidays in term time. If a pupil
accumulates 10 or more sessions (half days) of
unauthorised holiday absence within the previous 6
month period of a current academic year, the school must
notify the Local Authority and a Penalty Notice will be
issued to each parent for each child where it applies.
A penalty of £50 will apply if paid within 28 days or £100
up to 42 days. If after 42 days the penalty has not been
paid, legal proceedings will be taken through the
magistrates court for the unauthorised absence.
Schools may agree up to 10 days holiday absence in
special circumstances, at the discretion of the Head
Teacher. All holiday must be authorised in advance

| What's the disgusting bit here? That the penalty exists, that the school had to write about it, or that people think they can have their children skip school with impunity? |

That the penalty exsists for a start.understandable that exam years no pupils shouldnt go out of school.but how about those not in exam years.whould it really hurt a 6 year old to have more than two weeks off school.?
Holidays are more expensive i term time and those that are on a low income can not afford to take there child out in term time.
How about if the child is sick?
the term started three weeks ago in that time my son already has had one and a half days off due to a couple of things what was unavoidable,in the next three weeks he will have another two and a half days off for definate. |

I don't see how being sick should count against unauthorised absences as they would be authorised by the sick note that parents/doctor would send. Taking holidays just because they are cheaper doesn't seem like a reasonable excuse to me though - I imagine that it would disrupt anyone's education to have time off from school, yes, so why shouldn't parents be held responsible?

Being sick is classed as "authorized" absence so theres no worry there.
If you want to go on holiday during term time ...... "Swine flu" might be your answer ...wink !
