I went to guthrie school when i was younger .The main thing i remember about guthrie was the canteen floor was purple and white tiles and despite always having to be a angel in in the christmas play i quite liked it.
for some strange reason i can always remember the prayer we had to re ite before going to lunch ,it went something like.
thank you for the world so sweet
thank you for the food we eat
thank you for the birds that sing
thank you god for every thing.
amen

my teacher was mrs martin does anyone know if shes still alive?

I was at Guthrie as well (as you know local lass) - I had Mrs Evans (Mrs Martin's sister I think).

I remember that prayer before we ate, I also remember the Birthday badges they use to give out in assembly at the beginning of each week, being the angel gabrielle in the school nativity one year (I have piccies somewhere) and being part of the percussion the following year.

I also remember we did the Pied Piper of Hamilyn as a play and being a rat, only to be promoted to mayor the next night because the boy who played him was ill and the harvest assembly we would have every year and the cart that we had to put our donations on.

Do you remember Mrs Purdy the dinner lady?

There are lots of other little things I remember from things we did in class, baking on a friday afternoon, Santa visiting us

no i remember a mrs perkins only cos she lived round the road from us .and she would knit worzel gumage and sell them at the school fete i still have mine.i also still have the news clipping from the procession we were in.

i cant remember you there kizzy.
i remember we had a load of tadpoles in the classroom and growing a bean (which i ws really proud of but coming out of school gary lovelock knocked out of my hand i was gutted)

I remember Mrs Perkins.

I also remember the Tadpoles and also the Caterpillars we use to keep and watch them change to butterflies.

I also remember growing a bean and cress and crocuses.

Mrs Evans had an amazing memory - a couple of years ago my Nan bumped into her in the Doctors and she asked my Nan how me and my Brother were - That was over 20 years since she last taught us. She must have taught hundreds of children yet she could remember us and my Nan.

My favourite teacher at Guthries was Mrs Lomas. She was awesome, she didn't need an excuse to let us go mental outside. We'd be out there doing stuff with water and sand, summer was great.

can not remember mrs lomas.i used to love the conrete boat and the humps they had in the play ground they were great fun.also the maror coming at the time i think it was ken hatt (quite a big bloke a lot like brian blessed)coming in at the end of play time and ringing his bell shouting god saved the queen.
wonder if they still do that :lol:

:lol: Ken Hatt wasnt the mayor he was the care taker who lived in the little bungalow at the side of the school ,your thinking of ,i think his name was john marchant .
Also the dinner lady was mrs purvey not perkins ,she always gave us a extra strong mint .There was also mrs sandford who was in the school kitchen dishing up the dinners and pam ashfield ,and another one i remember is mrs bates .there was two mrs martins i had the dark curly haired one she was great,i saw her in sainsburys in chipp a few months ago she hasnt changed a bit.
At Dunstan i had miss Evans she used to tell us the lanky and titch storys .

We lived next door to John Marchant for a little while before we moved to Australia, he had a bunch of kids and two spaniels, one was deaf. Good bloke, I believe he passed away a little while ago?
