The rumour is the town precept will be increased by 1% which on the face of it is in line with inflation.
But it must be remembered that the 2009/10 budget included one of costs ie £54,000 for the purchase of machinery, £30,000 for the purchase of additional land at Beversbrook and other costs.
Therefore 1% represents a considerable increase over what could have been expected.
I wonder what exciting purchases we can look forward to this year.
Possible a £100,000 on upgrading the town centres CCTV perhaps?

Well they've already committed to yet more staff, more parks to maintain and more buildings to refurbish (without any real idea of what they're going to do with it).   So thats about £100K on the regular precept.

Don't forget Peter that the one off amounts from last year, which are now to be absorbed into the normal precept, is exactly the same tactic they used last year.   Afterall wasn't the Leisure Centre grant a one off that never got reduced?  Quite clever really.

Thats exactly the point I was trying to make, those one off costs have now been absorbed. Any reasonable tax payer would expect our town precept to go down this year.

Do our councillors actually believe no one looks at what they are doing or do they actually believe the untruths that eminate from bank house?
