Heres an old vintage Calne video (well he drives through it and Chippenham Marlborough etc) from 1963
"A journey in a jaguar car with Mr G. Eyles of Institute of Advanced Motoring. London to Bath. Driving through various towns eg,. Reading Theale Newbury Hungerford Marlborough Calne Chippenham etc"
Look out for all the old cars and lorries, and it shows how the old road went through Calne way back

That's a fantastic video, Biggles. The view of Harris' on the right as the man drove through Calne brought back memories but seeing the cars drive past the King's Arms and turn left at the Wheat sheaf is something I had never seen before - I aint that old! Thanks for posting it. _________________

memories of days gone by, fantastic to see!
for those who are to young to have seen calne as it was it gtives you a brief view of what was a delightful town centre. all the old shop opposite the lansdowne and the town gardens. the building at the top of the hill (halifax estate agency) is the co-op.
calne was a typical wiltshire market town , not what it is now a mis-mash resulting from the lack of forsight by succession of poor planning departments! _________________ A lifelong Calne supporter |
