Calne council have increased the "town events budget" by 50% yes FIFTY per cent, how can they justify that when everyone is tightening their belts. Ok i can sorta relate to the Carnival bit, but the town twinning part is total waste of money and always has been even in boom times. No doubt theyll be visits out there to the other 3 towns next year and years after at our expense.

It is ridiculous isn't it. I still maintain that twinning associations are nothing but a jolly up for those involved with no benefit given to the majority of the rate paying public. I would rather have the small percentage that I donate through my rates/taxes be spent on services that are worthwhile. _________________

next year all the twinning towns will be visiting Calne hence the increase in that budget. the town council has spent very little over the last 20 years. more has been spent on allotments.
the budget meeting will be held in November and thats the time to turn up and complain about any unacceptable increase in taxes. _________________ A lifelong Calne supporter |

If somebody on here has a spare bit of time, it would be interesting to know just how much the town council allows for anything relating to its twinning with other places. It should be available to inspect because it is public money which is funding it. _________________

GTB, why don't you request the information under the freedom of information act. make sure you ask for any grant to the twinning association per year over say the last 5 years. that should give you a clear picture.
I would suggest that it won't amount to more than £2,500 or £500 per year at the most!
