I fill a standard sized wheelie bin once every six or more weeks, on average.  IF the council took away my plastic and cardboard for recycling, I could get away with once every 15 weeks in all likelihood.  I live alone about 60% of the time and compost loads and have an open fire for loads more.  That said, we have discussed recycling and stuff on other pages of this site so I wont go into mass details here.

It's time local councils stepped up and challenged packaging from companies and started to charge on for all the waste created.

Recycling should start from the source of the problem not at the end.

if they collect every two weeks it will encourage mice and rats.we fill ours up every week .i compost loads of stuff.and do recycle.
bins will just be put out on the street .
i take it that if they do end up collecting every two weeks that are council tax will go down????

It is very likely that this will happen after the one council for Wiltshire comes into operation as the 3 other Wiltshire Districts have fortnightly collections.
Lived in Trowbow for a couple of years and had a green bin (like ours) for green waste and a bigger black wheelie bin for the general rubbish collected every two weeks. It seemed to work ok, but the bin was bigger

However, some councils are shying away from fortnightly collections and thinking of going back to weekly ones due to public upset

Just get another green one.
Saves all the hassle in the long run.
You can get them for £35 iirc.

It would save time sorting out all the recyclables.
Plus it is £35 one off payment.
If I am to sort out my own rubbish then I will start sending an invoice to the council for services rendered.
