Does any one think that the name of our beloved town should be changed? No one seems to know how it should be said properly.
Every one I know says it in a different way.
Any suggestions for a new name?
Harristown?
Mardenville?
West Quemerford?
East Chippenham? |

Calne is pronounced "kaln" i reckon, have heard a few pronounce it "khan", but I'm not the best one to ask as I am caulkhead (IOW).
Bit like Frome, why do people pronounce it "frume", or is it just a Wiltshire dialect? |

Depends whether you are trying to be posh or not
Posh people put and R in it - "Carlne"
Me - "Kaln" - nice and common sounding _________________ aut viam inveniam aut faciam! |

How about "poosville" or "gone to the dogs!"
Have a right to rant as just finished my latest shoe cleaning marathon!

Whilst I agree that some irresponsible dog owners should be shot, would it not also be an idea to look where you are walking?
Same thing could be said for the left over take away food and litter dumped on the pavements........ |

Twitter, I and a lot of others on this site are responsible dog owners as we always clear up after our dogs, and to be honest I am getting more than a little fed up of being classed in the same group as the irresponsible dog owners who walk on by after their dog has pooed, it should be cleaned up and as I have said on here before we wouldnt let our kids poo on the path and leave it would we!!!!
The fact that I have to avoid the chips strung along the pavements seems less important to some but to me with a black lab its a pain in the neck as we all know what labs are nicknamed as.
Please do not class us all the same and as block says maybe looking where you are walking would limit the ammount of time you clean your shoes.
It makes me mad to see dog poo lying around when I for one always clean up, maybe irresponsible dog owners need reeducating about dog poo. |

We spoke about this last year in http://calnetalk.myfreeforum.org/about412.html and didn't really come up with a suitable pronunciation. _________________
