A few of us went out on a nice little walk this afternoon from Beckhampton to Roundway hill - about 6 miles in all. we started off from the car park just up from the roundabout at Beckhampton and walked the footpath upto the Cherhill monument. You then branch off left at Cherhill and up and over monument hill until you have those twin aerials on Morgan's Hill in sight. There is then a nice down hill walk into a fantastic hidden valley with great views over Calne, Lyneham and even the water Tower at Charlton near Malmesbury. At the bottom of this valley you walk along a bridle path for about a mile until you come to a small pedestrian gate on your left which takes you up towards the aerials. Once at the aerials you walk down the tarmac walkway/road until you get to the main road, you cross the road and follow another bridle path until you reach a three way fork. Take the left fork and follow this until you reach Roundway down. We were dropped off at Beckhampton and picked up just above the white horse. The whole walk took approx. 2.5 hours. All the footpaths and bridleways are clearly marked and apart from the length and time the walk took to complete there is no real long slopes to traverse. I took my 5 year old twin sons with me and apart from saying their legs ached a bit at the end they found it fairly easy going - but they are fairly use to lengthy walks.

I will post some photos once I get them put on the computer.

Nice walk!  I was a volunteer warden for WWT before they became WWT on Morgan's Hill.  That was my stomping ground at my peak fitness and I adore the place.  [N.B. see my tuppence worth on the favourite place to live pages...]

You would have been hard pushed to find a better day to walk it for the last month and the one to come.  Fantastic.

It really was a fantastic day to be out and about for a stroll. What we liked about the walk was that it was well signposted and because of the frost at the moment it wasn't muddy in the slightest. We are planning to do this walk again in the Summer.
